The infamous R Group is one of the most famous Porsche clubs in California. The name of the brotherhood, strictly limited to only 300 members, is derived from the first Porsche 911 R (R = Racing), but when the R Group outlaws pronounce it themselves in their American slang, it sounds fittingly like "Our Group."
"It all started with a cover story and a film for the Porsche magazine Christophorus, which I produced with my team," recalls Frank Kayser. "On the return flight from California, it was clear that a magazine story wasn't enough to convey what I felt during my encounter with the misfits of the R Group." Kayser ultimately accompanied the R Group and its meetings over a period of sixteen months. He documented his experiences, impressions, and the lifestyle of the Porsche aficionados in road movies, but above all in his award-winning 580-page "RBook." Exhibitions followed at the Porsche Experience Center at the Hockenheimring and at Porsche on Sylt. From the Wall to the Room For the latest stop on the "RBook Roadshow" at the ZeitHaus in the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Frank Kayser wanted to go a step further. The result is a multimedia exhibition with large-format fine art prints, personal items, and portraits of the club members, as well as a light and sound system that resonates with the voices of the R Group members. "I wanted the full R Group experience and knew that this would only be possible if I moved my exhibition from the wall into the room," explains Kayser. "After five weeks of preparation and approximately 500 hours of work, I had an exhibition covering an area of almost 250 square meters, just as I had always dreamed of. The ZeitHaus at Autostadt is a fantastic platform for this. Now the spirit of California is in Wolfsburg."
