The Way Out Is Still Inside Las Vegas is not in neon here. It sits behind concrete, shadow and light — a thin skyline at the edge of a parking deck, almost like a thought cut out of the city. The foreground is empty, dark, strictly built. The city stands in the yellow haze beyond. Between them: an arrow. EXIT. A word that means more here than direction. In Las Vegas, exit is never just an exit. It can be the way back to the car. The last way out of the night. Out of the game. Out of a promise the city sells again every evening. Or simply a sign on a wall. That suspension is what gives the image its force. Photographically, it is almost mercilessly composed: horizontal openings, hard edges, a wedge of shadow like a cut, the word on the left, the city on the right. Everything leads. Everything blocks. You look out and still remain inside. EXIT is an image about a way out that the image never fully grants. A city of possibilities, seen from a place that knows only one direction.
Las Vegas liegt hier nicht im Neon.
Es liegt hinter Beton, Schatten und Licht — als schmale Skyline am Rand eines Parkdecks, fast wie ein ausgeschnittener Gedanke. Der Vordergrund ist leer, dunkel, streng gebaut. Die Stadt steht hinten im gelben Dunst. Dazwischen: ein Pfeil. EXIT.
Ein Wort, das hier mehr ist als Orientierung. In Las Vegas ist Exit nie nur Ausgang. Es kann der Weg zum Auto sein. Der letzte Weg raus aus der Nacht. Raus aus dem Spiel. Raus aus einem Versprechen, das diese Stadt jeden Abend neu verkauft.
Oder nur ein Schild auf einer Wand.
Genau diese Schwebe macht das Bild stark. Fotografisch ist es fast gnadenlos gesetzt: horizontale Öffnungen, harte Kanten, ein Schattenkeil wie ein Schnitt, links das Wort, rechts die Stadt. Alles führt. Alles blockiert. Man schaut hinaus und bleibt doch drinnen.
EXIT ist ein Bild über einen Ausweg, der im Bild selbst nicht eingelöst wird. Eine Stadt voller Möglichkeiten, gesehen von einem Ort, der nur eine Richtung kennt.
