BASALTORGEL

At first, you see basalt.

Then it begins to play.

Not immediately, of course. Stone has time.

But look long enough and the columns begin to develop a rhythm. Edges set the beat. Shadows create pauses. Some lines rise, others fall, and eventually you find yourself suspecting that someone composed the whole thing.

Just without the score.

BASALTORGEL belongs to ESSENZ – STERNE DER RHÖN. And perhaps few images reveal more clearly what this landscape carries beneath its surface: pressure, fire, cooling, time — eventually becoming something remarkably close to music.

A composer would probably enjoy it.

A geologist too.

For rather different reasons.

The longer you look, the less still the stone becomes.

Columns turn into notes.

Fractures into rhythm.

Shadows into rests.

Apparently, the Rhön has an instrument.

You simply have to listen long enough.
