A name like a joke.

Which is exactly why it hurts.

Once, this was about arrival.

Engine off. Door open. One night here. Back on the road tomorrow.

Now everything is still standing.

Room after room.

Door after door.

The building has forgotten nothing.

Only its guests.

No light behind the curtains. No car pulling in. Nobody asking whether anything is still available.

And eventually, the name begins to make sense.

MOTEL NONE.

Not No Vacancy.

Simply None.

America has always been rather good at putting promises beside the road.

Sometimes it simply leaves them there.

The motel remains.

The journey does not.

Zombie Town.

The show is over.

Strangely, that is exactly why something stays.
