Before the Crossing
He stands there like someone who knows the route.
Silver in the light. The visor dark. Behind it, nothing that owes us an answer.
You can almost see an astronaut.
Almost.
In ancient myth, the ferryman carried souls from one world into another. Not quite here. Not yet there.
That is exactly where this figure stands.
Between Earth and the void.
Weight and weightlessness.
Life and whatever comes after.
The silver body feels almost like armour. Not heroic. More like something built for a journey no one knows you return from.
The next movement is not a step forward.
It is a crossing.
That is what gives THE FERRYMAN — FRONT STUDY its strange calm.
No triumph.
No pose.
The visor remains black.
You cannot see inside.
Perhaps that is better.
Perhaps looking in would be too much of a risk.
As if you were not looking into a visor at all, but directly into the face of the other side.
The Front Study gives the myth its face.
For now, the ferryman is still looking at us.
For now.
The crossing begins in the visor.
