IF THE PORSCHE HADN’T ARRIVED A FEW DECADES LATE.
Haus Kemper, Wuppertal. Richard Neutra. Glass, horizontals, a pool.
Architecture so effortlessly elegant that, for a moment, even Wuppertal starts looking suspiciously like Palm Springs.
And then there is the 935.
Brand-new. Wide. Radical. White.
Calling it “fast” would describe it about as completely as calling a dinner jacket “black”.
Today, one of these sits somewhere around the 1.5-million-euro mark.
Doesn’t help the line.
That was already good.
THE POOLHOUSE lives in this strange shift of time: Neutra’s modernism on one side, a Porsche from another era on the other — and in the photograph, both behave as if they had arranged to meet.
No showroom.
No racetrack.
More like a rather exclusive casting.
Haus Kemper provides the set.
The 935 gets the part.
And remarkably, nobody has to move.
