VASEK POLAK FIREBREATHER

For a second, nothing happens under the Vasek Polak wing. The car sits there looking almost reasonable.

Then the flame comes out — short, white-yellow, completely inappropriate.

And suddenly you can see what you normally only hear.

Boost. Fuel. Hot metal. An engine speaking out loud for a fraction of a second.

Race cars of that era did not sound dangerous because someone designed the soundtrack.

They simply were.

Not fireworks.

Just a very bad place to be standing behind.
