LAGUNA SECA 917 REAR STUDY
Study No. 2
The second look at the same thoroughbred.
This time from behind.
And suddenly, the 917 feels even less like a racing car than before.
Two enormous tyres. Tubes. Exhausts. Braces. Surfaces. Two Shell fins rising from the body almost like small architectural structures.
You see engineering.
But after a while, you forget what any of it was built to do.
What remains is proportion, weight, rhythm and this remarkable architecture of parts that were never designed to be beautiful.
Which, apparently, did not stop them.
Between them sit the matte silver and that slightly shifted Martini blue. Not fresh. Not flawless. The surfaces carry marks. Small wounds. Use. Time.
Good.
A perfectly restored 917 might be more impressive.
But not more dignified.
LAGUNA SECA 917 REAR STUDY shows an old fighter from the side nobody usually asks to pose.
Wide.
Used.
Unreasonably well built.
A thoroughbred with nothing left to prove.
It already did.
